One Fifth Avenue by Candace Bushnell

I really wanted to love One Fifth Avenue by Candace Bushnell. She wrote Sex & The City and Lipstick Jungle, which thoroughly enjoyed. So I couldn’t wait to read it. I got the hard copy edition and loved the illustration on the front and started reading with great enthusiasm. However it became apparent quite quickly that this book just wasn’t going to live up to my expectations.

It is difficult to enjoy reading about a range of characters who do not seem to have any redeeming features. There wasn’t one person that I could empathise with so it was real tough going trying to get through to the end of the book. In my humble opinion Candace needed to add at least one person who the reader could align themselves with so that we the poor people could maybe understand what it means to live in such at such an exclusive and sought after address.
