I always want to lose weight. In fact one of the goals on my list is to drop a dress size. This goal always finds it way onto my News Years Resolutions list but I never really do too much about achieving this aim. I sort of watch what I eat and I sort of do a little exercise by going to a fun dance class or two. Every so often I step on the scales and wonder why I haven’t lost any weight. Does this sound like you?

How many times have you said ‘I wish I could lose weight but I don’t have the time’ or ‘I did everything I was supposed to but nothing worked’?

Weight Watchers Here I Come!

Well this year I thought that I would take action and learn how to lose weight properly by signing up with Weight Watchers.

2012 is about learning how to create a system that works in order to achieve my goals. One thing I am slowly starting to discover is that in order to achieve your goals you need to be able to answer the following three questions:

What is My Goal?

What Do I Need To Do To Achieve This Goal?

When Do I want To Achieve This By?

This can be applied to almost any situation so I am going to see if this approach will work for me.

What is My Goal?

My goal is to lose 12lbs

What Do I Need To Do To Achieve This Goal?

I will join Weight Watchers program

I will set up a regular exercise schedule that suits me so that I will stick to it.

I will join a weight loss forum to provide and give support to like minded people.

I will find a friend who is also motivated to lose weight too.

When Do I want To Achieve This By?

By 31st March

So I have signed up for Weight Watchers Online. Actually I registered via Topcashback.com. It is a cashback site which pays you if you order products or services through their links. This is therefore a no-brainer for me. I get the opportunity to sign up to an internationally known weight loss program and gain all that knowledge and assistance for free.

Everyone Now Knows

This public declaration of my intent will hopefully help me to stay on track and focussed on the goal. Wish me luck.

So do you have your own goal that you hope to achieve? Can you apply the three questions above to your own situation? Does it work? Leave a comment and share your own experiences.

I love to dance and when I saw that Groupon was offering a great discount on a bulk order of salsa classes, I snapped it up. I told two friends about the offer and they have agreed to join me in ten lessons of salsa over the next few weeks.

I have danced salsa before but for some reason or other, I just stopped doing all the things that I really enjoy. But it is time to get back into action and to have fun.

Salsa Dance Classes Can Take Place Anywhere

When we arrived at the venue, we discovered that the class was to take place in the lower level of a Spanish Style restaurant called La Tasca.

There is no need to invest in salsa dance shoes or clothing. All you need is to wear something comfortable and shoes with a little bit of traction so that you can glide around the dance floor.

No Dance Partner? No Problem

There were about 30-40 people there with the majority being women. The teacher got us to form a circle and the gents made a smaller circle in the middle. Every couple of minutes, the guys would rotate in the circle so that everyone got to dance with a partner.

This was a beginners’ class so the teacher broke down every move into easy to understand instructions. We did a little warm up and the steps that we learned included the basic mambo, rumba and simple turns. By then end we joined the different moves together to form a short routine that we were able to repeat over and over. I definitely see myself getting addicted to salsa because it is easy to pick up and is a very sociable activity.

It was a fantastic class because, although some people were a little nervous, the general atmosphere was nice and relaxed so it didn’t matter if you made mistakes. The only problem was that the air conditioning wasn’t on so it was a little hot.

Salsa Dancing – A Great Way to Exercise

The two benefits of taking these salsa dance lessons is the fact that I am doing a little bit of dancing and I am also doing something that should burn off a significant amount of calories. As I am going to continue this once a week as well as my Zumba classes, I will keep an eye on whether I have lost any weight by the end of the month.

Find Out Where You Can Salsa The Night Away

If you are thinking about finding an exercise that is fun and will help to keep you fit, then you should definitely look out for any salsa classes in your area. Sign up to Groupon so that you can receive daily emails about their special offers and you may find a great bargain for yourself.

So I have been keeping a diary to look at my daily calorie intake over the past seven days and have found that on average I eat around 1700 calories per day. Not bad really. My real downfall is biscuits, apple crumble and Victorian sponge cakes which are ridiculously and unfairly calorific.

I have therefore come to the conclusion that If I do some exercise regularly I should be able to shift some weight. (wow what a shocker!!) At the moment the only exercise I get is a 5 minute walk to the train station and a 5 minute walk from the station at the other end to my place of work. Then I am sitting down all day in front of a computer screen and answering the phone.

Time to start figuring out how to add more movement into my day, being realistic about what I will actually do as opposed to what I wish I could do. And maybe reduce my daily calorie intake – maybe…..

So it is almost the beginning of a new year and I will be back on my mission to lose weight. I have made sure that I have enjoyed and indulged during the holiday season because, well, it just wouldn’t have been Christmas without the gorgeous cakes, biscuits, chocolates, mince pies, crisps, roast chicken, roast potatoes – oooh I could go on and on.

Suffice to say, I have thoroughly enjoyed myself and am ready to get back on track. I have done a little research so I know what I need to do to successfully reach my weight loss goals.

I have checked out my BMR. This measures how much calories it takes for the body to run. If you are interested you can check out your own BMR.

According to my current weight and height, my body needs around 1386 calories per day to function. This number increases the more active you are.

Looking at official data, it seems the daily caloric intake for the average person to maintain their weight is 2000 calories and the recommended daily caloric intake for a person looking to lose weight is 1500 calories. So I will work with these figures and aim to reduce my calorific intake and do some exercise in order to create a deficit of 500 calories per day. I should be able to lose around 1 – 1.5lbs per week .

Fingers crossed.
