We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver is about a fictional school massacre. It is written from the viewpoint of the killer’s mother, Eva Khatchadourian, and basically looks at how she is trying to come to terms with her son Kevin and the murderous crime that he has committed. The book is written as a series of letters from Eva to her estranged husband and the more you read, the more you find out about the strange and complex relationship Eva has with her son, her husband and her daughter Celia.
This was a really interesting read as you got to look at the consequences that such a crime has on other members of a family and how a mother is trying to exist day to day, knowing that others are judging her due to their child’s acts.
We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver is definitely worth reading. Aparently Tilda Swinton has signed on to play the role of Eva in the film version. I can definitely imagine that she will be great in the role.
