Yippee!! Another thing to tick off my 101 things to do list. I went to a free salsa class with my sister this evening. There are lots of salsa clubs in London and this place is called Salsa! Bar restaurant and it is on Charing Cross Road in central London.
The teacher is this really friendly and energetic guy called Kwamee and he teaches a free introductory lesson every Friday evening from 6.30pm-8.30pm of Latin salsa moves covering salsa, merengue & lambada.
The place was absolutely packed and everyone was smiling. It was really nice to find that there was a real mix of abilities so I didn’t feel out of place at all. The only thing that you must do if you ever intend to go along to a free class like I did is to be brave and take a place near the front so that you can see clearly. This was very important for me as I am quite short – (5 foot 3 inchs).
Kwamee first taught the basic steps then we had to find partners for the partner stuff. I was a little scared at first but I was determined to continue dancing so I just took a deep breath and asked a random guy to be my partner. It was great. Certainly very good for my self esteem.
So a free 2 hour dance class, 2 bottles of Corona beer for the price of one, great company and free entry to the club afterward. Who could want more ? I will definitely be returning to Salsa! Bar in the very near future.
