Help Your Visitors Enjoy Your Blog More – 5 Great Additions You Need to Consider

How To Welcome Visitors To Your Online HomeWelcome to my online home

I believe that all blogs are works in progress and we shouldn’t be afraid to change things and experiement with the layout and positioning of items on the page.

I have been taking part in a 30 day list building and blogging challenge and have had the opportunity to visit a range of fantastic blogs.

I decided to write this post because I noticed that there were some things that other website owners were doing that really helped me as a visitor to feel welcome at their online home.

If you are looking for ways to improve your visitor’s experience to your online home, consider adding the following things to your blog.

No.1 – Your About Me Page
Once I have read a blog post, my next port of call is always the About Me page. I want to know more about the owner of the blog. One, because I am nosey and two, because it is interesting to find out where people are from and how they found themselves writing a website.

The About Me page doesn’t have to be long and you do not have to divulge your deepest darkest secrets. A brief note about what your blog is about and what people can expect will help people to decide whether this is something that they want to read whenever you publish a new post.

No.2 – Your PictureVicky Virgo
As the saying goes, a picture is worth a 1000 words. A photo of yourself helps to create a connection for the reader. They can connect the words you say with the image that you portray in your photo.

If you have a business blog, you may want a formal photo. If you are an animal lover and your blog is about animals, how about a photo of you and your pet. If you have a neutral looking name, the photo could actually help indicate whether you are a male or female!

You can choose to add a photo in the header of your blog, in the sidebar widget or on your About Me page. Wherever you feel comfortable. It doesn’t have to be a professional shot either. Smiling does help but it is not mandatory :)

I have a photo on my About Me page as well as this image at the bottom of each post (I used to act so this is a very old headshot). I might consider adding something above the fold in the header but still a little shy…….

No.3 – Your Contact Me PageGet in Touch
If you are hoping to create a sense of community around your blog, it is a good idea to provide a way for people to get in touch with you.

Hopefully you have your comments on your blog postes enabled so that people can add their point of view to your articles. But if someone has a specific question or request, then a Contact Me Page will make it really easy.

There are lots of WordPress widgets to choose from so just activate one of them, add the short code to a page and add the page to your menu, like I have,  where everyone can see it.

No.4 – Your Email Address & Phone Number
Some people don’t like the contact forms so if you want to be sure to accomodate all needs, you could consider adding your email address too.

Depending on the type of business you are running, you might want to consider adding a telephone number or your Skype details.

No.5 –  Your Products PageSales Page
If you are offering anything for sale, you should have a products page with all this information. You can set up the page so that people can purchase directly from it or you can write a little blurb and add a link to your sales page if it is housed on another website.

This is the perfect way to promote your stuff without coming over all salesman-like.

My Products Page isn’t as I would like it yet but I am working on it. It is called My Books as that is what I have for sale at the moment.

At least it is in place so I can go and amend it and make it look perfect when I have time (I know – procrastinator in the housssssse!)

As well as the products page, you can use your side widgets to promote your goods. An excellent example of this is on Tiffany Dow’s website. She is promoting her products all the way down both sides of here blog. There are also a couple of affiliate products that she is advertising too.

Keep Adding, Testing & Amending

So, as I said, blogs should be seen as works in progress. I will be adding things and removing things in order to help you, the visitor have a better viewing and reading experience each time you pop on over to my online home :)

Have Your Say: Does your blog include any of the above listed things? Is there anything else that you would add? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
