Snow White and the Huntsman Film Review

I recently watched the film Snow White and the Huntsman and I have to say that I was a little disappointed.  There were plenty of big name movie stars in it but it seemed as if the writer and director got bored halfway through the story because the action sequences and some of the creative ideas that they started out with near the beginning of the film seemed to peter out and disappear before the end and didn’t make much sense.

The Stars of Snow White and the Huntsman Couldn’t Save This Film

The film is based on the well known fairy tale and Charlize Theron, playing the evil queen, did a pretty good job.  She got to say that well known line “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?” Kristen Stewart played Snow White but this role didn’t really stretch her acting skills that much. Everything she did just reminded me of her role in her breakout movie The Twilight Saga.  There was even a similar ménage a trios set up in this film that echoed the supernatural storyline of that between Bella, the vampire Edward and werewolf boy Jacob.

In Snow White and the Huntsman the two men vying for her attention is a duke and the Eric, the Huntsman, played by the very handsome Chris Hemsworth, who I saw playing the role of  the Marvel comic book character Thor in film The Avengers.

As this film proceeded, we were presented with random supernatural figures that appeared for no apparent reason then disappeared just as quickly.

The Evil Queen’s Demise Was Boring to Watch

Everyone knows the general plot of this fairy tale so I am not giving the ending away by saying that the evil queen dies.  Well I would have thought that this would be one of the most striking scenes in the film but it was so lacklustre.  Charlize’s character had already shown us how powerful her magical skills were in the first half of the film so I was expecting a really strong death scene but it was so boring. If you blinked, you would have actually missed it.

Should You Watch Snow White and the Huntsman?

Snow White and the Huntsman is a fairy tale that definitely isn’t suitable for kids It is very dark and sombre with a few violent killings that might frighten young children.  So although this film isn’t for children, there just wasn’t enough drama to satisfy this grown up woman.  I think it is time give up on this drama and try out the comedy version of this same fairy tale, featuring Julia Roberts as the evil queen.  This looks like it could be more fun.
