Not all stairways have exactly the same stair parts take the stairs that have open risers for an example. There are basic rules and principles that need to be followed in building staircases in order to make them safe from danger.
After youve got the design and your installation plan all mapped out, never forget the legalities of building staircases. The national and local building code provides important notes to consider. Your design must pass the requirements set by the national and local building code before you can actually build your stairs. Consider in your design the materials and wood you will use. Will it be varnished or painted? Would you place a carpet on it? Feng shui would also help you in the orientation of your design. The Chinese believe that the direction and accessories of your staircase will determine your familys wealth and fortune. That is, if youre the superstitious kind.
The material used for stair climbing should also be sturdy. It should be able to withstand children running up and down, and constant abuse. If you choose to carpet your stairs, make sure you check the carpeting from time to time, to avoid any accidents caused by slipping on stair carpet.
Number one rule for staircases is to never leave them cluttered. When you come home from school or work do not thrown your bag on the steps. When the kids are playing with their toys make sure they do not leave the toys (especially toy with wheels) on the stairs or make sure someone cleans up after themselves.
Now when cleaning many people ignore the auxiliary step area which includes the side panels, railings, handrails and landings. Do not ignore these areas. If they are made of wood you should not only dust them but polish them as well with furniture wax. No waxing for the steps or landing places as we are avoiding slipping. nothing thats close to the feet.
