If you choose to do it yourself here are some reminders to help you as you go along. Safety is the main priority in planning your staircase. It should be placed not directly outside rooms, or in places where it will disrupt the flow of the room - such as in the middle of your living room. If you have children, you should choose materials that are child-friendly. Sharp edges should be covered and materials such as glass should be avoided. The staircase railing should also be sturdy and not have very wide gaps in between. Floating stairs are a major hazard and are not recommended, unless you want to sacrifice safety for aesthetics. Floating stairs do not offer any support for children and old people to hold on to when using the staircase.
You must plan the lay-out of your future home according to your needs. The number of rooms, the flow of your home, how many levels, and where to put the staircase, should all be carefully considered and planned.
Number one rule for staircases is to never leave them cluttered. When you come home from school or work do not thrown your bag on the steps. When the kids are playing with their toys make sure they do not leave the toys (especially toy with wheels) on the stairs or make sure someone cleans up after themselves.
For practicality surfaces need to be tough. If carpet is your chosen, floor covering, ensure that it is well attached to the stairs either by a gripper rod beneath or stair rods above. Stair rods are an old-fashioned but decorative idea and many styles, particularly those in brass, are still being manufactured. A stair nosing will protect stair edges in situations where there is particularly heavy wear. Delicate wall surfaces can be protected by the introduction of a painted dado at the lower level.
It is a fact that a house built with more than one level should have a staircase, a construction designed to bridge a large vertical distance by dividing it into smaller vertical distances, called steps. There are different types of staircases, of course it depends on what the owner of the house likes, the general shape, construction method, materials, design and other features that differentiate one from another. And if you want to have good staircase, good stair parts are necessities.
